KLWMBC Preliminary Round 1 (31.07.08)

Well, today I went to watch KLWMBC till 11p.m. There were 7 teams for the first preliminary round which were St. John's Institution, KL, Victoria Institution, KL, Catholic High School Band, Selangor, Klang High School, Selangor, Ashwin Willemse Orient Marching Band, South Africa and Chomsurang Upatham School Marching Band, Thailand.

I went to Victoria Institution which was just situated besides the Stadium to have a visit. I saw a few bands there were practising hard for the comp XD

Overall, it was a great performance showcasted by multi-talented band members. Every band has their own uniqueness as well as their strength and weaknesses. The weird thing was those bands which have performed yesterday for the national comp have improved a lot in this KLWMBC. May be they wanted to reserve their energy just for this event. Who knows?Klang High School
OMG, at last I have the chance to watch the performance by Sultanah Asma School Marching Band from Kedah. They were all girls and mostly were Malays. Surprisingly, my personal view was their formations were the most creative and neatest. I can't believe they can march in unity and in a fast pace as well. There were no clash at all and the overall balancing was so damn good. Although their sound projection was not that loud, but we can't blame them as they were all girls. Imagine you are a girl who carrying a marching tuba and march and run, do you think it is easy?
Give me some time to compile all the video into one ya. For the Catholic High's Pics and video, I have taken alot and will upload once I have time. Sorry that I might not be able to record the performance by Canada team as I am not going to watch on that day >.<

Chomsurang Upatham School Marching Band, Thailand

All in all, it was obvious that today's performances were outcasted yesterday's performances. I liked the Thailand's styles as they were very creative too. Good job to South Africa team as all of your trumpeters had done a wonderful job. Their tune and sound were so damn prominent and loud. That's the style of a real marching band. Besides, I liked the MAMMA MIA song. I felt very relaxing when listening to it and the song was quite funky.

Not to forget, I would like to thank Jia Yi, Kah Hui, Mei Wan and someone who walked or perhaps ran like mad from DATARAN MERDEKA to STADIUM MERDEKA just to watch the last two teams' performances. Do you know how long is the distance between the two places? Go and figure up yourself ya. Haha.....BTW, a great THANK YOU!!!! For the lazy fellow who don't want to come, don't forget to treat me abalone ya. LOL!!! Kidding. I just want Seremban CENDOL at the plaza there.

These are the RESULTS that I have just received.

1st - Malaysia: Sultanah Asma Marching Band - 90

2nd - Thailand: Chomsurang Upatham School Marching Band - 89.9

3rd - Malaysia: Victoria Institution Cadet Corps Band - 86.1

Walau ye, the difference between 1st and 2nd place is just 0.1!!!!!

Let me update you the result for NATIONAL MARCHING BAND COMP which has completed yesterday.

1st - Terengganu: SMJK Chung Hwa Wei Sin & BEST DRUM MAJOR

2nd - Pahang: SMK (P) Methodist, Kuantan

3rd - KL: SMK Victoria & BEST CG

4th - Perak: SMJK Nan Hwa, Sitiawan

5th - Selangor: SMJK Katholik, PJ

6th - Kedah: Kolej Sultan Abdul Hamid

7th - P.Pinang: SMJK Jit Sin

8th - Sarawak: SMK St. Joseph, Kuching

Guys, pls support this event as we need more M'sian to cheer for our teams XD. If you have the preliminary round's ticket, just show to them and you can watch for free on 2nd August 2008. The final would be on 3rd August (Sun). Come beramai-ramai : )

p/s: Be patient for all marching band lovers, I would upload the videos once I have done the editing part. Or perhaps others have already uploaded at youtube in no time >.<
